Barnes & Noble is Opening in Costa Mesa
Barnes & Noble will open a new flagship store at South Coast Plaza on August 26. Barnes & Noble’s Costa Mesa opening marks the return of the bookstore to the community.
Barnes & Noble is a major bookselling company and one of the most recognizable bookstore brands in the U.S. It operates more than 600 stores nationwide, alongside its online bookstore and digital reading platforms. Several of its locations also include a cafe and spaces for events such as author appearances, book readings, and children’s storytimes.
The bookstore will offer a wide selection of books, toys, gifts, games, vinyl, and newsstand items. The store also features a Barnes & Noble Cafe with an exterior patio. It spans more than 27,000 square feet.
The opening comes more than a decade after the previous Metro Pointe store closed in 2016, after its lease expired. It aligns with the company’s broader expansion and plan to open 60 new stores in 2026.
CEO of Barnes & Noble, James Daun said, “The closure of the Barnes & Noble in Metro Pointe Costa Mesa a decade ago was a major loss to the company and to the community. Now, we return to South Coast Plaza with a one-of-a-kind store that truly reflects our ambition as a bookseller and our respect for the caliber and culture of Costa Mesa.”
