Meltwich, a Canadian favorite for toasty, cheesy goodness, is opening a restaurant adjacent to the University of Central Florida, ensuring that students, faculty, and anyone who likes melty goodness can enjoy a good grilled cheese and more.

Annapurna Foods LLC recently filed permit applications with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation to open a Meltwich at 12098 Collegiate Way.  Franchisee Sathya Sreenivasan tells Whatnow Orlando that the Canadian-born restaurant will be open by the end of May.

Meltwich was founded in 2015 in Toronto, Canada and is expanding its U.S. presence. In 2023, Technomic named it the fastest-growing burger and sandwich chain, with over 75 locations open or in development, including expansion into the U.S. (Houston, Florida, Chicago).

The restaurant specializes in gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, burgers, and poutine (though the name at the Orlando location will be changed to “Hot Mess” fries). The restaurant also offers halal options.

The menu at Meltwich focuses on rich, gooey grilled cheese sandwiches such as the three-cheese “Ultimelt”, the southern fried chicken melt, and the “Big Melt” — a three-patty smashburger with melted cheese. Hot Mess Fries (poutine) are available topped with Nashville hot chicken, chipotle steak, and more.
