The Chancery Market Food Hall & Bar will open at 1313 N. Market Street Wilmington, DE 19801, this fall. The 12,000-square-foot food hall will kickstart the redevelopment of 1313 N. Market and 1201 N. Market.
“Akhtar Nawab is the chef and owner of Alta Calidad and Alta Calidad Taqueria in New York and Otra Vez in New Orleans,” Nawab’s website explains. A Kentucky-raised Indian chef, Nawab has been crafting in the kitchen for over 25 years. Interestingly, he has an affinity for Mexican cuisine and has learned to aptly incorporate the region’s flavors into the Indian dishes he grew up eating.
Nawab has contributed to “acclaimed restaurants like Gramercy Tavern, Craftbar, and Craft, the latter of which received three stars from The New York Times and won the James Beard Foundation’s ‘Best New Restaurant’ award.” Nawab’s culinary approach champions a “less is more” concept while his business mission promotes the exact opposite. Nawab’s hospitality company has curated a multitude of restaurants and food halls, with what seems to be little intention of stopping anytime soon.
Nawab is currently accepting vendor applications for the Chancery “from minority-owned businesses and culinarians who ‘create various styles of global cuisine with reimagined specialties.’”
Hospitality HQ Director Rod Daya told What Now Philly vendors haven’t been fully finalized for the collective. It’s also currently unclear if any of Nawab’s restaurant concepts will debut at the Chancery. An interview with the owners of Rooted AF, a vegan concept coming to the Chancery, is anticipated.
The article has been edited to denote that an interview with Hospitality HQ is no longer forthcoming.
