A family-owned Indian restaurant is making its return this summer.

Banjara Indian Bistro, owned by Vaneet Chopra, will open at 687 Cross Keys Rd. in Sicklerville. The restaurant previously operated in Philadelphia but closed before the pandemic.

“That was a good location that we had in Chestnut Hill, but ultimately it was a very small restaurant, and it was difficult to manage just because of the size. Relocating the concept, I’m just very excited. It means the world,” Chopra told What Now Philadelphia.

Banjara means “nomad,” and the restaurant will reflect the spirit with a Rajasthani-inspired theme, drawing on the colors, architecture and cultural traditions of Rajasthan in northwestern India.

“It’s going to make you feel like you’re sitting in India. I’m going to leave it up to your imagination. I don’t want to give too much away,” he said.

The menu will follow suit, focusing on authentic dishes, shareables and flatbreads from regions across India.

“We’re going to focus on northern Indian cuisine. We’re going to touch bases from Rajasthan, Old Delhi and some areas of Gujarat,” Chopra said.

Chopra looks forward to bringing Banjara Indian Bistro to the Sicklerville community.

“This is a collective family effort with my uncle, aunt and my parents. I’m just excited to open up and offer what we have to the people of South Jersey,” he said.

An official opening date has not been set as the team awaits final inspections. Follow Banjara Indian Bistro on Instagram for the latest updates. Stay tuned!
