One of the nation’s premiere ice cream chains is planning a sweet expansion throughout the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream has big plans for sharing its frozen treats throughout the City of Brotherly Love, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The acclaimed chain is planning to triple its Philadelphia presence, upping its storefront count to between 15 and 20 shops. While Van Leeuwen hasn’t currently determined the precise location for its future Philly regional homes, the brand is considering real estate at the King of Prussia Mall and in Princeton, New Jersey.
Van Leeuwen’s CEO, Ben Van Leeuwen, sees Philly’s open landscape as a fertile opportunity for the ice cream giant to fill in some important gaps. He states “There’s still a lot of empty space for us to go all over the country, but especially Philly.”
The Brooklyn-based ice creamery currently has four Philadelphia storefronts, with a fifth in development in Ardmore. Van Leeuwen does not have a precise timeline established for its expansion, however it is aiming to open the new locations in the next few years.
