Mission BBQ, a fast-casual counter service restaurant, continues its expansion with a proposed location for Wilmington, DE. A plan to build a Misson BBQ, side-by-side with a second fast food location, in a portion of the Kirkwood Plaza shopping center at 4365 Kirkwood Highway has been submitted to New Castle County. The project requires the existing 1,805 sq. ft. Citizen’s Bank to be demolished, and a 3,840 sq. ft. Mission BBQ and 4,000 sq. ft. yet-to-be-named fast food restaurant be built in its place. The plans also request to remove 6,635 sq. ft. of existing parking of the two-story commercial building with a 3,436 sq. ft. outdoor patio area.

While Mission BBQ has yet to sign the lease for the property, they told Delaware Online that they look “forward to being in the Wilmington community in the future.” The property owner is listed as Oekos Management, and the Minor Land Development Exploratory Plan was submitted on behalf of Brandywine Development Group. This would be the second Mission BBQ location in Delaware, with the first on Route 13 in Dover.

Mission BBQ serves barbecue the “American Way,” including brisket, pulled pork, turkey, pulled chicken, sausage, salmon, and rib dishes and sandwiches, as well as sides like mac-n-cheese and baked beans. The first Mission BBQ was opened on Sept. 11, 2010, to honor the country’s heroes. The restaurant is decorated with police and military memorabilia. They have since opened locations all over the U.S. and raised more than $10 million for first responders and those serving in the military.
