Local Sichuan staple, Han Dynasty, is set to take over the former residence of Nauti Mermaid at 110 Chestnut St, with plans to open the new two-story space by 2024, according to an article published Saturday, Mar 11, in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Having opened a location in the neighborhood back in 2010, Han Dynasty managing partner, Mark Allan told the Business Journal, “We’re excited. We just love Old City. This is where our brand really took off.”

Whereas the previous owners of the 110 Chestnut St space operated different concepts across its two floors – Nauti Mermaid and Old City Oyster Bar – Han Dynasty will be using both, with the second story hosting private events for upwards of 80 guests, nearly double that which can currently be accommodated.

Meanwhile, the food and drink menus will remain the same, a reflection of founder Han Chiang’s “[commitment] to sharing the authentic cuisine of the Sichuan Chinese culture and the tradition behind it,” with classic dishes such as Dan Dan Noodle, Ginger Shredded Duck, Mapo Tofu, Spicy Hot Pot, Braised Beef Noodle Soup, and Chengdu Mung Bean Noodle made with the province’s famed huā jiāo peppercorn.

As Han Chiang writes on the restaurant’s official website, “My food is a perfect balance of spice, numbness, saltiness, and flavor.”
