Those in Hatfield looking for a quality caffeine fix will be pleased to know that Starbucks may be coming to town. The coffee corporation is in talks to open a location in Hilltown Crossings shopping center, which is located at Route 509 and Orvilla Rd. in Hatfield, PA.
Leasing documents show that a lease is being negotiated for Starbucks at 1631 Bethlehem Pike, Line Lexington, PA, which appears to fall within the shopping center. Hilltown Crossings is owned by Wolfson Group.
Starbucks started as a single store in 1971 at Seattle’s Pike Place market. It was expanded 10 years later after New Yorker Howard Shultz fell in love with the coffee shop. In 1987, Starbuck ditched the brown aprons for green ones and opened up locations in Chicago, Vancouver, Canada, California, Washington D.C., and New York. They expanded internationally in 1996.
According to USA Today, Starbucks pays hourly workers between $15 to $17 an hour, though pay can be as high as $25 for longstanding employees. As of January 2022, those with two or more years tenure at Starbucks could receive a 5 percent raise and those with five or more years a 10 percent raise. Starbucks also offers health insurance to eligible part-time and full-time employees, free coffee, 100 percent tuition coverage through Starbucks College Achievement, and stocks and saving programs. In addition, they offer flexible schedules and paid time off.
Starbucks has also committed to reducing its carbon footprint, waste sent to landfills, and reducing water usage by doing away with reusable packaging, reinvesting regenerative agriculture, reforestation, conservation, and water replenishment by 2030.
Starbucks’ mission is “to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time.”
