Whole Foods Market is expanding its presence in Philadelphia with the launch of its smaller-format concept, Whole Foods Market Daily Shop.

The new shop is slated to open within the next two years at 2221–2225 South St., according to a press release.

“Daily Shop is an important part of how we’re growing our physical store presence,” Christina Minardi, vice president of real estate and store development at Whole Foods Market and Amazon, said in a statement. “As we expand this smaller format into new cities, we’re continuing to deliver the same high standards and carefully curated assortment Whole Foods Market is known for, in a way that meets our customers’ everyday needs.”

The stores are designed to deliver high-quality food and everyday essentials in a smaller, “more streamlined format.” The concept focuses on making it easier for customers to quickly find meals, pantry staples and grab-and-go options.

“These stores are designed with intention at every level, from layout to assortment,” Stephanie Curley, senior manager of growth & innovation at Whole Foods Market and Amazon, said in a statement. “We’re able to introduce new merchandising approaches and fixtures that make it easier for customers to find what they need, while still delivering the quality and discovery they expect from Whole Foods Market.”

Highlights will include Whole Foods Market favorites such as fresh produce, meat and seafood, prepared foods, bakery items and a selection of 365 by Whole Foods Market products. The stores will also feature local and regional suppliers, with offerings tailored to reflect the surrounding community.

Founded in 1980 in Austin, Texas, Whole Foods is a leading natural and organic food retailer. Part of Amazon’s grocery business, Whole Foods Market serves customers through more than 550 stores across the U.S., Canada and the U.K.

In Philadelphia, there are two outposts in Center City and on South Street. In the greater Philadelphia area, locations include Newtown Square, Wayne, Wynnewood, Plymouth Meeting, Jenkintown and Spring House.

The brand launched its Daily Shop concept in New York City in 2024 and now operates eight locations in the New York area, Arlington, Va., and London. Additional locations are planned this year in New York and London, with expansion into Boston and Chicago expected over the next two years.
