The Sleepy Whale, an Arizona beer bar and bottle shop specializing in craft beer, wine, and mead, is getting ready to open a new location in Phoenix at 100 E. Camelback Road, Suite 160.

The company’s second location is set to move into the former home of Huss Brewing Uptown Phoenix Taproom + Kitchen at Uptown Plaza, according to a recently submitted liquor license application filed with the City of Phoenix. While an exact opening date has yet to be announced, the new location is already listed as “coming soon” on the company’s website. Customers can expect a rotating selection of craft beer, wine, and mead, along with beer and wine available for purchase to go.

The Sleepy Whale first opened in Historic Downtown Chandler in the summer of 2019. The concept was created to offer a curated selection of local and out-of-state craft beverages in a relaxed setting where customers can regularly discover something new. According to the company, the name reflects the idea of finding something rare, much like spotting a sleeping whale or discovering a hard-to-find brew.

The Chandler location has built a following with its lineup of more than 30 rotating taps, wine by the glass, and a bottle shop. The business is also connected to several other Arizona concepts, including The Theodore Beer + Wine Bar & Bottle Shop, Beer Barn, and Silver King Smokehouse. The Phoenix expansion marks the brand’s first move beyond Chandler.

The new location places The Sleepy Whale in one of Phoenix’s most active retail and dining destinations. The center continues to attract a mix of local and regional concepts, making it a natural fit for an independent, craft-beer-focused business. This will be an excellent landing space for The Sleepy Whale as it expands its presence in the Valley.

The new location is expected to offer many of the same features found at the original Chandler store, including rotating draft selections, wine offerings, and retail beverage sales. The company describes its concept as a beer bar and bottle shop focused on craft beverages from Arizona and beyond, giving customers a wide range of options to explore with each visit.
