Bialy Bird may soon be flying again as the owner is applying for space in the heart of the Buckman neighborhood.

Bakery owner Adam Thompson recently put in a liquor license application for 1412 SE Morrison Street, the address of Opals night and day cafe which is now closed. This follows the business closing their last location at 5425 NE 30th Avenue. It was previously reported by What Now Portland that Bialy Bird was opening in St Johns in December 2024.

“On pause while we build our brick and mortar!” says the description on their Instagram page. They are currently running a gofundme page and have raised over $3,000 so far to start the business back up. He said in the gofundme description he hopes to use funds for buildout, equipment and costs of opening.

Their menu featured pastries, breakfast sandwiches, coffees and cold drinks. The name “Bialys” refers to the special Jewish bread used for making bagels. They also advertise using schmear, a cheese spread.

The hours of operation are listed as 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There will also be outdoor dining operating hours, which are the same as the regular hours.

What Now Portland has reached out to the owners, and this article may be updated.
