Owner Hein Thura Nuang is working hard to open his new Thai restaurant this year.

Nuang recently put in a liquor license for Golden Lotus LLC at 106 NE Grand Avenue, on the east side of the city. According to Naung, he is hoping to open in August but has not narrowed down an opening date. Comments for the application are due by June 8.

This is not the only business Nuang owns. He also owns a waffle shop in the city, as well as other restaurants in Happy Valley. Nuang moved to Portland from Hawaii in 2009, and he always wanted to bring a Thai fine dining restaurant to the area.

The cuisine served will include chicken satay, pai thai, chicken fried rice, as well as seafood. He has always known Thai cuisine, and he said he is excited to bring it to a growing market in the city. Other Thai establishments in the area include Hat Yai Belmont, Thai Vintage Cuisine, Thai Champa, Apple Thai and Farmhouse Kitchen Thai Cuisine in Pearl District.

The hours of operation right now are set to be noon to 9 p.m. every day. Outdoor dining was not included in the application.

Nuang told What Now Portland he will be providing new information on the restaurant, and this article may be updated.
