Good Taste BBQ looks set to open inside 18 NW 4th Ave. in Portland’s Old Town, a building that has sat empty for roughly two and a half years. Signs point toward a Cantonese concept, though the business hasn’t confirmed specifics, and no opening date has been set while a tenant improvement permit for the space remains under review.

Reina Kimberlee Zhen is connected to the new business, which ties into a broader restaurant network run by Bruce Zhen through Four Seas Capital Holdings LLC. Zhen’s holdings include the local “Momiji” group of restaurants along with Bridgetown Foods Co. and Ideal Sushi Supply Co., giving the incoming concept access to an already-established supply and operations network in the Portland market.

Bridgetown Bites first reported on the likely opening, noting that the building previously housed Chen’s Good Taste until a fire suppression system failure on Christmas Day 2023 caused water damage that forced the restaurant to relocate to Vancouver, Washington. The two-story brick building, which spans roughly 12,000 square feet with a basement, underwent a full renovation that included a new roof, updated electrical systems and a repaired sprinkler system.

The building’s return to active use marks a notable shift for that stretch of Old Town, an area that has struggled with vacancies in recent years. A new restaurant backed by an operator with an existing local footprint gives the block a tenant with resources already in place to open and sustain a full-service kitchen, rather than a standalone startup taking on the space alone.
