A new pop-up from an experienced chef of the area is coming to the east side of the city.

It was recently reported by Portland Monthly that Chef Jose Lalo Camarena will be opening his pop-up Metlapil at 920 NE Gilsan Street sometime this month. It will feature Sinaloan seafood and masa dishes, as well as mamey ice cream.

Camerena was a chef at the restaurant group Republica before recently deciding to pursue his own restaurant project. He now will open the spot as a residency with Kautia, his partner who will be the pastry chef.

There will also be a butcher menu with seafood dishes like oysters with fermented chile-tomato salsa. This is an example of a dish Camarena grew up having and later inspired him to cook.

Also at the address are Charcuterie Me food and drink caterer, and La Portena food manufacturer. There is not yet a set opening date, but it is expected to be opening this month. According to the article, it will have an a-la-carte service, and there will later be ticketed multi-course dinners.

What Now Portland has reached out to the owner, and this article may be updated.
