According to a recent permit filing, Shinsen Sushi is slated to open in Vancouver at 510 W Columbia Way.

“We’re currently under construction and having some complications. However, we are hoping to open our doors in May,” Yvonne Murawski, the executor listed for the business, told What Now Portland.

According to Washington Company Search and Bizapedia, Shinsen Sushi LLC was incorporated in April of 2023, approximately nine months ago. Otherwise, information on Shinsen Sushi and the property is limited.

“Shinsen” is a Japanese term that can have a couple of different meanings, depending on the context. In traditional Chinese and Japanese mythology, “shinsen” can refer to an immortal or transcendent being. This could be a deity, an enlightened sage, or a supernatural being.

Another meaning could be referring to “fresh or new.” This usage is often associated with food or ingredients, indicating that they are fresh or of high quality. The meaning can vary based on whether it’s used in a historical or contemporary context and whether it’s written with different kanji characters.

When it comes to sushi, the origins of sushi can be traced back to ancient times, with its evolution influenced by cultural, economic, and technological factors. The earliest form of sushi, known as “narezushi,” emerged in Southeast Asia over a thousand years ago. This method involved fermenting fish with rice and salt, allowing it to be preserved for an extended period. Over time, this preservation technique made its way to Japan.

In the 19th century, as Japan underwent a period of modernization and cultural exchange with the West, sushi continued to evolve. The introduction of refrigeration and transportation technologies allowed for the widespread availability of fresh fish, enabling the development of “nigiri-zushi,” the hand-pressed sushi that is now considered to be internationally recognized.
