According to a recent permit filing, Sweet Red Bistro will be opening another location in Albany, located at 208 SW 2nd Avenue.

A representative of Sweet Red Bistro was not immediately available for commentary upon What Now Portland’s request.

While an official opening date has yet to be confirmed, the Sweet Red Bistro is described as a small family-run restaurant.

The inspiration behind Sweet Red Bistro stems from the owner’s days spent in the enchanting city of San Jose, Costa Rica. During those days, life is said to have revolved around leisurely sipping rich café con leche on the patio of Hotel Costa Rica, indulging in unhurried meals at cozy cafés, and savoring cocktails in a historic theater’s enchanting ambiance. The owner recalls buying fresh flowers from street vendors, illuminating her balcony with the soft glow of candles, and learning to relish every single moment.

Returning to Oregon, most of her days were dedicated to raising her beautiful family of four children. Her heart was poured into nurturing her family, but her longing to recreate the memories of Costa Rica never waned. Years later, that nostalgia gave birth to Sweet Red Bistro, which opened in 2011.

The owner of Sweet Red is Cyndi Sweet. Her dream of opening Sweet Red in the Historic Downtown Albany is said to align perfectly with the bistro’s essence. Cyndi has set out to create a whimsical space that’s ideal for savoring life’s moments, and she doesn’t just welcome guests; she embraces them as friends rather than patrons.

Her warmth, charm, and her passion for delectable food and drink are described as being integral to the allure of Sweet Red. Having raised her family in Albany, Cyndi is delighted to bring something unique and special to her community, making Sweet Red a family affair in the truest sense.

Sweet Red’s history is also intertwined with Albany’s own, housed within a building with a heritage dating back to 1886. Sweet Red Bistro has resided at 208 First Avenue since 2011, but prior to its current incarnation, it was the beloved location of Boccherini’s coffee shop for 27 years, according to the company website.
