The restaurant known for pastries and sandwiches in Union is moving closer to the Portland area this year.

The owners of Meemaw’s Daily Sourdough, Elise and Derek Stevens, recently announced they are moving from their original location at 105 N Main Street to McMinnville. This is a faith-driven business with a pay-what-you can restaurant model that closed its doors in July 2024. An address and official opening date have not yet been announced due to delays in finding a lease.

“We would love a permanent residence,” Elise told What Now Portland. She added they have looked at multiple locations, but there were concerns from the city about their business attracting homeless populations.

Currently, the business is accepting donations for the new restaurant. It is a 501c3 that began in early 2024 and relies on donors for funding. In turn, meals can be provided to the community. The new space will be meant for families and young people to gather and share a meal.

The menu for the last location included soup in sourdough bread bowls, breakfast options like pancakes, sandwiches and pastries. Right now, the business is traveling in a food truck to deliver these kinds of meals to those in need. The menu for the new location would be staying the same.

More information on Meemaw’s Daily Sourdough can be found on their website.
