The Sacramento County Health Department conducted a routine health inspection at Pita Q on August 10, resulting in a yellow placard.
The restaurant was flagged for multiple health code violations, including a lack of supplies in the handwashing sink, uncovered food items, and rodent droppings in multiple areas.

Pita Q is an authentic Mediterranean restaurant and specializes in serving fast-casual Mediterranean street food. According to the inspection report, the violations included:
- The report stated that no paper towels were available in the paper towel dispenser at the front handwashing sink. Staff was instructed to stock paper towels and maintain supplies at all handwashing stations at all times.
- According to the report, uncovered onions were stored under an office desk near mail. The mail was removed, and onions were covered with plastic during the inspection.
- The report noted raw beef stored in a bucket in the walk-in cooler with a thin plastic covering. Leaking condenser was dripping on the beef. Staff were ordered to relocate the meat into a container with a lid.
- The inspection report noted rodent activity in several locations in the facility, including approximately 120 rodent feces found under the handwashing station at the cook’s line.
- The report noted that the droppings appeared to be both old and fresh. Most of the droppings were found under a heavy granite slab.
- Approximately 50 rodent droppings were found under the soda machine underneath the cabinet. Feces were found in the syrup boxes or on unused cardboard. The restaurant was instructed to remove debris and feces immediately from the facility. The report stated that the restaurant must inspect and clean the facility within 12 hours.

- The restaurant did not provide a food safety certificate at the time of inspection. The restaurant must provide the certificate within 60 days.
- California food handler cards were also not available for review during the inspection. The restaurant was recommended to provide food handler cards within 30 days.
- The report noted that feta cheese in the front cold-top refrigerator was at 50°F and sliced tomatoes were at 48°F. Staff were advised to keep cold-held items at 41°F or less. The staff must correct the violation within 24 hours.
- Bulk containers stored under the preparation table near the rice cookers were not labeled. The staff was ordered to add labels to describe the containers within 14 days.
- Light food build-up was noted on the shelves under the vegetables bar. The restaurant staff is required to clean and maintain it within 7 days.
- Shelves in the walk-in cooler had food debris, and the vents above the cook’s line had dust accumulation. The areas should be cleaned and maintained within 7 days. The floor, side walls, and fryer equipment were observed with heavy grease buildup. The staff was asked to clean the area and maintain it within 7 days.
- The front cabinets had doors missing and should be repaired and maintained within 14 days. The report noted a leaking condenser in the walk-in cooler and required it to be repaired within 14 days.
- The report found three unsecured gas canisters present by the walk-in cooler. The staff was advised to secure the cylinders within 7 days.

- One light was missing at the grill venting area. The restaurant must add the missing light within 30 days.
- The sanitizer solution in a bucket used for wiping cloths measured 10 ppm or less. The staff corrected the sanitizer solution on site and retested it at 200 ppm chlorine.
- The tallow bin was covered in grease buildup that was also present on the floor near and under the tallow bin. The area should be cleaned and maintained within 14 days.
- The handwashing sign was not available in the bathroom. The restaurant should add the sign within 7 days.
- A wet mop was stored touching the floor. The staff were advised to store mops upright or in approved holding areas and should be corrected within 24 hours.
- A broken cove was kept under the handwashing station at the cook’s line, and a cove tiling was also missing under the register, which left a large opening to the inner walls. The staff was advised to repair it within 30 days.
- A large hole was noted in the concrete of the ground directly under the register, and the whole wall to the left of the 3-compartment sink was missing coving, which left it open to the inner walls. Two broken cove tiles to the right and under the preparation sink. All the violations are required to be corrected within 30 days.
- The back wall of the cabinets underneath the fountain machine was missing and was left open to the inner walls and should be corrected within 30 days.

Follow-Up Inspection

Following the inspection, the restaurant was issued a yellow placard and required to address the violations identified in the report.
According to the report, a reinspection was to be conducted within 24 to 72 hours to assess compliance. The restaurant was instructed to address the cited violations before the reinspection.
