The vacant space at 1123 12th St officially has a new tenant. Sacramento-based Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters have signed the lease for the former Starbucks location this month. This news was first seen in the Sacramento Business Journal.

According to the Business Journal, Toni Larkins, wholesale sales manager at Chocolate Fish, is expecting to open the new location by the end of the year and has started conversations with architects and contractors for interior improvements. The new location will have indoor and outdoor seating.

The new location would mark a memorable return for the company, as the coffee chain used to operate a location on the corner of Q and Third Streets. Founded by Andy and Edie Baker, Chocolate Fish Coffee is a multi-award winner and was ROAST Magazine’s 2023 Roaster of the Year Finalist. The company directly chooses the best quality crops and microlots directly from farmer partners to produce the best-tasting coffee.

What Now Sacramento reached out to the founders for more comments but hadn’t heard back by the time of this coverage. Chocolate Fish Coffee has a cafe and roastery in East Sacramento, two cafes in Land Park and Folsom, and two storefronts inside Sacramento International Airport Terminal B. The company is also actively seeking franchisees to expand its footprints beyond Greater Sacramento.
