Rivian Automotive Inc. is coming to Sacramento. The Irvine-based electric vehicle maker has confirmed plans to open a sales and service center at 4100 Northgate Blvd in late 2027, taking up roughly 60,000 square feet inside the former Fry’s Electronics building that was redeveloped by LaTerra Development LLC into a 156,000-square-foot industrial building last year.
The new Sacramento location will be open to the public for sales, vehicle deliveries, service appointments, and will also offer scheduled demonstration drives for Rivian’s flagship models like the R1T truck, the R1S SUV, and the brand-new five-passenger R2. This represents Rivian’s first move into a more accessible price point after years of competing at the premium end of the EV market.
“Sacramento is critical to our growing commercial footprint in Northern California,” said Tommy Carrillo, Rivian’s director of commercial facilities real estate. “As we welcome new customers to the Rivian family, this facility allows us to provide robust support to our expanding owner community while giving prospective buyers the chance to experience our class-defining electric vehicles firsthand.”
The address has a storied history in Sacramento retail. Originally built in the 1990s as an Incredible Universe store, the building later became a Fry’s Electronics, a massive consumer electronics destination that drew shoppers from across the region until the entire Fry’s chain shut down in 2021, according to the Sacramento Business Journal. LaTerra Development converted the shell into industrial space last year, and Rivian’s lease on the northern half of the building fills the first major commercial tenant slot in the redeveloped property.
