Movida at 555 2nd Street has had a mural painted on the outside of its space, advertising its pending arrival since the beginning of the year. Now, it’s making moves toward its opening.

On April 4, the business filed an application for an On-Sale General Eating Place license under the business name Movida Enterprises, LLC, with CEO Babak Marhamat listed as the petitioner.

While Movida’s “chef-driven” menu hasn’t been announced just yet, its Facebook page says the concept will bring together the “best of both Persian and Mexican cuisine with a fusion twist.” Ambience-wise, the eatery guarantees “a fun night out.”

In San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood, Movida will neighbor notable establishments such as 21st Amendment Brewery & Restaurant, Blue Bottle Coffee, and The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen.

What Now San Francisco was unable to contact Marhamat, but his assistant was able to confirm the reported information.

According to Movida’s Instagram, the eatery is slated to open before the summer of 2023.
