Ohana Growth Partners (OGP), one of the largest Planet Fitness franchise operators, is expanding its California presence with a new club planned for San Mateo. The company has signed a lease for a 23,000-square-foot space at 1850 South Norfolk Street in Parkside Plaza, with opening targeted for later this year.
The upcoming fitness center will feature Planet Fitness’ signature offerings, including strength and cardio training equipment, a Black Card Spa for premium members, and free fitness training included in all memberships. Known for its motivating community and judgment-free atmosphere, the club is designed to maintain the brand’s accessible fitness environment while delivering a full range of modern gym amenities.
Construction is expected to begin later this summer, with design led by Ignisio Studios and Horizon Retail Construction, serving as the project’s contractor. The site, formerly occupied by Pet Club, is being redeveloped into a full-service fitness facility.
OGP currently operates clubs in San Bruno and San Francisco and is exploring additional sites across the Bay Area, including Pacifica, Millbrae, the Mission District, the Van Ness corridor, and the Castro.
Founded in 1992 in Dover, New Hampshire, Planet Fitness is one of the largest and fastest-growing franchisors and operators of fitness centers worldwide, as measured by membership and club count. In 2026, the company reported approximately 21.5 million members and 2,909 locations across all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, Panama, Mexico, Australia, and Spain.
