Due to a lack of indoor seating and rising operational costs, the restaurant is preparing to close permanently this month. The West Seattle restaurant is one of five Portage Bay Cafe locations in Seattle.

Portage Bay Cafe in West Seattle is Permanently Closing

Portage Bay Cafe is well-known for its breakfast, brunch, and lunch options. The menu offers a variety of signature breakfast dishes, including pancakes, French toast, eggs, and other classic favorites. The chain focuses on locally sourced, organic, and sustainable food ingredients.

In a social media post, the restaurant team announced the closure of Portage Bay Cafe’s West Seattle location. The team stated that the cafe located at 4725 42nd Ave SW in Seattle will host its last brunch service on Sunday, October 25.

The team wrote, “We are proud of the work our crew has done to make our West Seattle location a destination for the community. We will all miss serving you!”

While the West Seattle location is closing, the other four locations of the restaurant, including South Lake Union, Roosevelt, Ballard, and NE 65th Street, will remain open.

Why the West Seattle Location Is Closing

Talking about the closure decision, the team explained, “There are many factors that led to this decision, but the simple fact is that there was never enough indoor seating to support our business model.”

According to the West Seattle Blog, the West Seattle location is closing after four years of service on The Junction. The restaurant owner, Amy Fair Gunnar, stated that the West Seattle space could not accommodate enough customers during the fall and winter months, when outdoor dining becomes less practical.

In the report, Amy mentioned that the rising restaurant operating costs also added to the challenge.

Although the West Seattle outlet of Portage Bay Cafe is closing, the Seattle community can still visit its other four locations to enjoy the same brunch flavors and warm hospitality.
