After more than two decades at its current North Sumner location, Brank’s BBQ & Catering is preparing to move across the street into a newly built restaurant of its own.

The longtime barbecue restaurant will relocate from 13701 24th St. E. to 2451 136th Ave. Ct. E. Co-owner Preston Brank told What Now Seattle that the family is targeting early October for the reopening, though an exact date has not been set.

The restaurant will maintain its normal service through September 5, then switch to takeout and catering from September 9 through September 19. The kitchen will then remain closed until the new location opens.

Brank said the family decided to move because it wanted to own its space rather than continue leasing. The new 6,000-square-foot restaurant sits on 1.75 acres. The family purchased the property in 2018 for approximately $1 million, according to a report from The News Tribune.

The building will feature a rustic, barn-like design with high ceilings, exposed wooden beams, corrugated metal accents, and a roll-up garage door connecting the dining room to an outdoor patio. The kitchen will be approximately three times larger than the current one, and the outdoor smoker area will double in size.

Customers can expect the same menu and overall experience after the move. The restaurant will continue serving its familiar lineup of brisket, tri-tip, ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken, hot links, sandwiches, and family meals.

Charlie and Lori Brank founded the business in downtown Sumner in November 1995 after Charlie developed an interest in Southern-style barbecue.

The restaurant moved to its current industrial park location in 2005 and is now operated by the family’s second generation, including siblings Preston Brank, Jessica Hughes, and Sarah Williams.
