Longtime Madison Park pub The Attic has changed hands, with Amber Davis and Kenji Jensen-Otsu, the owners of Fremont’s Triangle Spirits, acquiring the business at 4226 E. Madison St.
Jensen-Otsu told What Now Seattle the opportunity came up unexpectedly. The couple had long appreciated the space, and Davis previously worked at another business in Madison Park.
“The neighborhood is a great place, and we happened to be in a position to move on it,” Jensen-Otsu said.
Davis and Jensen-Otsu purchased Triangle Spirits in 2017 after spending years as regular customers. They later updated the Fremont bar’s interior, food menu, and cocktail program.
At The Attic, Davis and Jensen-Otsu plan to keep the current staff and spend time getting to know the business and its regulars. They also want to hear directly from Madison Park residents about what they want from the pub.
For now, one change is already planned: Triangle Spirits’ fried chicken will join the menu. Other adjustments may follow as the owners become more familiar with the pub and its customers.
“You don’t go in and try to change it,” Jensen-Otsu said. “You go in and try to make it better and make it last for a long time.”
The Attic’s current menu features scratch-made pub fare, including burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, salads, appetizers, and desserts. The bar offers draft and packaged beer, cider, wine, cocktails, and nonalcoholic refreshments, along with lunch, dinner, happy hour, and weekend brunch menus.
The location has served as a neighborhood gathering place in different forms since 1907 and has operated as The Attic since 1967. The business abruptly closed in 2020 before reopening under new ownership in 2023.
Jensen-Otsu believes the pub’s history and Madison Park residents’ expectations will influence what comes next for The Attic, and he sees hospitality as key to keeping the pub in the area.
“People want a place where they can go, feel comfortable, and have it feel like part of their community,” he said. “That’s what we’re all about.”
