The Curlew Store is getting closer to reopening at 2 River St. in Curlew. Jenny Konz, who manages the store and is leading the reopening project, told What Now Seattle that the team hopes to welcome customers within the next two weeks, though an exact date has not been set.

Ronald O’Brien purchased the business to keep the community from losing another place to shop close to home. Some residents currently travel about an hour for basic groceries, but the reopened store will give them a nearby option for everyday essentials.

O’Brien also operates a beef farm, and the store will serve as a distribution point for locally raised beef and pork. Konz is also working to bring in products from other nearby farms and producers, including fresh produce.

The Curlew Store’s building dates to 1901. During the work to reopen it, the team tried to preserve as much of its historic character as possible. The goal is to restore the kind of general store Curlew residents remember: a place where they can find groceries, household basics, and other everyday items.

For Konz, the reopening is about preserving that history and giving the community back a store it has relied on for generations. “I’m really excited about this project and being able to open this store back up for the community,” she said.
