The City of Oshawa is moving forward with a $50-million modernization of the Tribute Communities Centre, a sports and entertainment venue in downtown Oshawa at 99 Athol Street East.
The project has now been issued for tender, according to a press release from the City of Oshawa. The renovation follows a 30-year partnership with the Oshawa Generals and Oak View Group, which operates the facility and is investing in infrastructure improvements, including a modernized concession area. The project is expected to enhance the fan experience while maintaining ongoing venue operations during construction.
The modernization includes a refreshed concession program as a key component of the redevelopment. Oak View Group is leading improvements to food and beverage areas, which will be updated as part of broader interior renovations. While specific vendors have not been announced, the upgrades are intended to streamline service, improve layout, and better support crowds attending hockey games, lacrosse matches, concerts, and other live events.
The Tribute Communities Centre, which first opened in 2006, is approaching its 20th anniversary. The venue currently hosts the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League and will soon be home to the Oshawa FireWolves of the National Lacrosse League. The City’s investment will also support updated seating, expanded entry points, and improved amenities throughout the building.
A major focus of the project is creating a more modern and efficient guest experience, including updated concession spaces designed to handle higher volumes during peak events. The redevelopment is also expected to improve circulation within the venue, making food and beverage service areas more accessible across concourses.
Oak View Group, which manages venue operations, will continue working with the City of Oshawa on phased construction planning to ensure the facility remains open throughout the renovation timeline. The concession upgrades are part of a broader strategy to position the arena as a more competitive destination for sports and entertainment programming in the region.
“As we approach the 20th anniversary of the Tribute Communities Centre, we are excited for this strategic investment in Oshawa’s future – one that will transform the Region’s premier sports and entertainment venue in the heart of downtown Oshawa,” City of Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter said in a press release. “The expanded entrance, upgraded seating, and modernized amenities will elevate every event and ensure the TCC continues to meet and exceed the expectations of its fans, performers, and athletes and of our valued partners.”
