An Arlington favorite is getting ready to change the way that Reston diners think about empanadas. The aptly named Mpanadas is opening a new location in the area before the year is out, reports local media outlet The Burn.
The eatery will be opening as part of the Sunrise Valley Center. Owner Jesse Correa kindly spoke to What Now DC about bringing the concept to Reston, explaining that the space is strategically located near Sterling, Herndon, and Ashburn, putting it in close proximity to major consumer areas.
Correa adds that the new restaurant will hew closely to Mpanadas’ Arlington location, while adding certain aesthetic and comfort upgrades to the Reston space. “We haven’t finalized starting hours yet.” Correa explains. “For Arlington we started out with shorter hours but grew to what we have now. We may do the same thing here. The menu will be the same. We’re putting a little more investment into the customer facing areas. The ambiance is going to be a step up. There were limitations to the heating and cooling systems in Arlington so we’re installing new systems in Reston.”
Mpanadas will have approximately 450 square feet dedicated to customers, with seating for around 16, making it a bit larger than the Arlington location.
Future regulars will be able to enjoy one of Mpanadas delicious treats for any meal of the day; Correa confirms that the concept will be serving breakfast empanadas and coffee all day, alongside other offerings.
Locals won’t have to wait too much longer to try out one of Mpanadas’ myriad interpretations of the titular dish; Correa states: “We are all praying it’s done in early November, with a grand opening to follow.”
