Exciting things are on the horizon for Roggenart European Bakery, Bistro & Cafe. The beloved chain is building a commissary kitchen in Columbia, Maryland, and it will help the concept launch new locations planned across Maryland and Virginia.

A press release pertaining to the incredibly important new addition to Roggenart’s arsenal states that the bakery will be breaking ground on the  9570 Berger Road commissary in the coming weeks. The 11,000 square foot space previously housed Hysteria Brewing Co. and according to the Roggenart team “will become the heartbeat behind everything we bake.”

Roggenart’s new commissary kitchen is part of a greater push towards further expansion. Co-owner Nem Popov stresses its importance, saying: “The key to everything is this new central bakery.”

The commissary kitchen allows Roggenart to ensure consistent quality across the 12 locations it currently has open, as well as the future stores it has planned. The chain has set its sights on opening bakeries in Bel Air, the DC suburbs, and Baltimore City. Additionally, Roggenart plans to open a Montgomery County storefront before the end of the year. The brand is also considering the possibility of eventually franchising.

The Roggenart team anticipates the commissary build-out taking 3 to 4 months. This new chapter promises to be an exciting one for the brand; as the press release states: “From our first bakery on Falls Road in 2017 to today, Roggenart has always been about bringing people together over something made with care, whether that is a warm loaf of rye or our newest creation, the Bunssant. This commissary is the next chapter, and we cannot wait to bake it with you.”
