A new shop is getting ready to help DMV bikers old and new get the most out of their bicycles. The Practical Cyclist will be bringing service, merchandise, and community to Northwest DC.
The Practical Cyclist is setting up shop at 6219 3rd St NW. The shop will focus heavily on servicing bikes; the website explains that when riders bring their bicycles in, The Practical Cyclist will “assess & adjust, quick tune, tune-up, safety check, pre-ride check, etc. It involves inspecting, adjusting, and lubricating. If there is a specific problem to address, we’ll scope it out. If it’s quick and everything else looks OK, we’ll fix it. If it’s not quick, we’ll talk about it and make a plan.”
The store is also prepared to do complete rebuilds and chain waxing and swapping.
Bikers will also be able to do some shopping at The Practical Cyclist. The site explains that the concept will: “stock utilitarian parts and accessories, and some special fancy-pants items that you don’t find in typical bike shops. We may offer some non-traditional service models, maybe a DIY workbench, probably some classes and workshops.”
While The Practical Cyclist does not yet have an available opening date, the store is bound to appeal to bikers ranging from casual hobbyists to the most ardent enthusiasts. The website states its intention succinctly, saying: “We want to be the kind of shop you WANT to visit. The kind where you can hang out, bring your kid, have a chat and a cup of good enough coffee.”
