A new karaoke spot is headed to Japantown. K-Box Karaoke is aiming to open this June at 1660 Geary Boulevard, next to Japan Peace Plaza.
K-Box will have ten private karaoke rooms, which customers can reserve to sing their hearts out, and will also offer light snacks and beverages. “It’s just a simple, classic karaoke club,” says owner Edmond Chang. “A place for people to come and have fun and sing.”
K-Box will also have a recording studio, so singers can record and listen to themselves during a session. But anxious performers should be warned: as of right now, there’s no alcohol on the menu, so if you’re only down to belt Alanis’s “You Oughta Know” after a few tequila shots, you’ll have to coat your throat beforehand. But, according to Chong, alcohol isn’t out of the question in the future.
With what looks like the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in sight, there’s nothing we’d love more than to sing our hearts out with our closest friends in a small, enclosed room. Here’s hoping for a June opening.
