Yan and Leo, co-owners of the specialty coffee company Flor and Seed Coffee Roasters, are childhood friends who believe in farm-to-table coffee. According to their website, “we have always shared the same love for the people and coffee from our mother land Mexico.”
Flor and Seed currently offers subscription and single bag sales of coffee from Mexico that has never seen a storage unit or port and is always sold the same year the coffee is harvested. The coffee is ‘truly seasonal, artisan small-batch, and limited-edition.’
Recently the company, which has operated through online sales, was approved for a permit filed for 3985 Harney Street in San Diego.
Yan and Leo wrote in an email to What Now San Diego, “Our Plans are to open a shop in the heart of Old Town… serving a variety of specialty coffee drinks as well as whole bean bags.” Pastries and pan dulce from a local bakery will also be available for purchase in the shop. Subscription coffee will continue to be available through their website.
What’s more, Flor and Seed is deeply concerned with working fairly with farmers. “By dealing directly with the farmers we can understand the challenges they face. We do our part by providing technical support and a fair price for their coffee. As a direct result of sustainability practices, the quality of the product is a reflection of all that hard work,” says the company’s Instagram page.
