Mike Shuler, local real estate developer and restauranteur, is developing a new dining concept at 37 Broad Street in the downtown peninsula, right across the street from his own Blind Tiger Pub.

A restaurant name has not yet been announced, but plans submitted to the city describe the concept as “high quality fare in a refined surrounding, with the interior courtyard as a centerpiece to enhance lighting and ambiance.”

As part of the redevelopment, Shuler plans to remove 750 square feet from the second floor to create a light well and open-air feel to a now enclosed courtyard below. The building is currently used for commercial space, housing realty and law offices. Under this new vision, a residential unit would sit atop the restaurant. The plan also includes general improvements to the property such as landscaping and repaving.

Shuler started his legacy as a local restauranteur by opening Midtown Bar & Grill on King St in 2009. By the time he made the decision to close that space in 2018, he had already purchased and revamped iconic nightlife spots Trio and Blind Tiger Pub. He went on to open Vintage Lounge in 2020. According to recent reports, Shuler has even more restaurants in the works, including at the Bohicket Marina and along the Stono River.

Shuler and the project’s architect Julia F Martin received unanimous support from the zoning board for a parking exception request at the Broad St property in June. No further filings have been made, and an opening date has yet to be set.
