Perkasie has a brand new brewery in its future. Van Lieus Brewing Company is currently building a microbrewery and taproom at 211 W. Walnut St. slated to open later this year. The brewing company, which as a pending brewery license application filed with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, has a website that lists its address along with a link to an Instagram page with no posts. Van Lieus Brewing Company is owned by father and son duo Jim and Galen Barr who started brewing in the basement of their 8 acre New Jersey farmhouse.
“Things escalated quickly from there,” Galen Barr told What Now Philadelphia.
Jim is a retired patent attorney from a pharma company, and Galen left his job in banking, where he spent 12 years, to start the brewery. A December 2021 Facebook post by Juliano Architects congratulates the Barrs on their project and announces that construction on the brewery and taproom has started. The Perkasie Towne Improvement Association noted in a November 2021 Facebook post that the microbrewery was making progress on its building renovations. Photos from the post show the building’s interior, which is completely gutted.
Van Lieus Brewing Company will inhabit a 1,850 sq. ft. space, across the street from Bravo Pizza, which should seat about 35 people indoors. There will be additional seating outdoors. Beer will flow from eight to 10 taps made in a 5BBL system. The brewery plans to partner with local food trucks to offer food to their customers.
