A Brazilian bakery is packing up and moving, but loyal customers can rest easy because it isn’t going far!
Kouklet, owned by Mardhory Santos-Cepeda, will relocate from 1647 to 1615 E. Passyunk Ave., upgrading from its current 800-square-foot shop to a larger 1,200-square-foot storefront, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
The expanded space will allow Santos-Cepeda to give the bakery an all-day cafe feel, with breakfast, lunch, a curated coffee program and seating for up to 15 guests.
She also plans to incorporate an open kitchen, giving guests a front-row view of the baking operations behind the bakery’s growing following since 2021.
Kouklet’s pastry counter will remain a staple at the new location, with favorites such as cookies, cakes and tarts alongside Brazilian specialties like bolo de rolo, a layered cake roll native to Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil, and sonhos, sourdough doughnuts.
Santos-Cepeda began searching for a new space after her lease expired in August, continuing to rent month to month. However, she hoped to remain in the neighborhood.
Her search led her to the former Laurel and ITV spaces, which had previously been marketed together before becoming available separately. She ultimately struck a deal for the former ITV bar space.
Kouklet will remain at its current E. Passyunk Ave. location until the new space is ready, with the revamped bakery targeting a February opening.
