A veteran from Tony Gemignani’s pizza empire is opening up her very own pizzeria in Berkeley. Chef Laura Meyer announced that she is launching Pizzeria da Laura in early 2023

In an Instagram post, Meyer shared that it would be her last week working as head chef at Gemignani’s pizzeria — Capo. Meyer and Gemignani go all the way back to 2006 when she started working during high school. After Gemignani asked her to join Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, she climbed her way up the ladder; from the regional chef at Pizza Rock to head chef at Capo’s.

While the exact location is not disclosed, Meyer told Eater San Francisco that it will be on Shattuck Avenue near the University of California Berkeley campus.

“Although it makes me want to cry I am looking at it as the end of one epic tale and the beginning of a new one. The greatest takeaway I have is how to be a great person no matter the successes and failures. It’s not the end of Tony and Laura just the next evolution. Stay tuned for the wild ride that is Pizzeria da Laura,” the award-winning chef said on Instagram.

What Now reached out to Laura but she is unavailable for comment at the moment.
