Grocery Outlet is preparing to open a store at 576 Center St. in Moraga’s Rheem Valley Shopping Center. According to KTVU, construction is underway, and the store’s opening has reportedly been delayed until early next year.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the store was held in December 2025, according to Lamorinda Weekly. Moraga Mayor Steve Woehleke said at the time that residents were happy about the project. The Moraga Planning Commission had approved a partial redevelopment of the shopping center to make room for a new grocery store, Lamorinda Weekly reported.

Grocery Outlet is a discount grocery chain headquartered in Emeryville, California. Its stores are independently owned and operated, according to KTVU.

The company says it is one of the largest opportunistic buyers in its industry. It purchases overstock and closeout items, so each store’s product selection changes over time. Most products are sold at 40% to 70% below regular retail prices, according to the company’s website.

Earlier in 2026, the company announced the closure of 36 underperforming stores in California and elsewhere, according to KTVU. No Bay Area stores were on that list. In the same period, the chain moved ahead with new Bay Area locations, including a North Beach store in San Francisco and a Lake Merritt store in Oakland.
