Niuhi Brewing is the latest beer company to enter the San Diego market. San Diego Beer News reports the new brewery found a partner in Setting Sun Sake founder Josh Hembree to form a collaborative sake and brewpub in Miramar.
Niuhi Brewing’s founder Rhett Terrebonne has placed brewing operations at the former location of Latchkey Brewing in the historic Mission Brewery Plaza. Hembree will act as Niuhi’s brewmaster, overseeing their lineup of shark-themed beers like the Tiger Shark Hazy IPA and Bull Shark American IPA.
In settling their brewing operation at Mission Brewery Plaza, Setting Sun Sake is able to expand on their own brewing plans and both entities can arrange for future packaging and distribution goals.
The two brands will join forces at Setting Sun’s location in the Miralani Makers’ District, sharing a tasting room and installing a kitchen to offer on-site food options. Luckily Terrebonne already has the food element covered. Taking inspiration from his former home in Maui, Niuhi’s sister concept Ono Kine Grindz will serve Hawaiian-inspired food in the revamped tasting room.
Niuhi Brewing has already launched with their first beer collaboration released with Protector Brewing and are beginning to circulate the local beer festival and events scene in San Diego. Reports say we should see Niuhi Brewing, Setting Sun Sake, and Ono Kine Grindz together in their joint tasting room and kitchen by Spring 2023.
