Ross Dress for Less, a national off-price retail chain offering discounted apparel, home goods, and other merchandise, is getting ready to open a new location in Carlsbad at 955 Tamarack Avenue.
The company recently submitted a document to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality to open a new location in the former home of Rite Aid. While an exact opening date has not yet been announced, the filing confirms plans for another Ross location in the San Diego area. Customers can expect the retailer’s selection of department and specialty store brands at discounted prices.
Ross Dress for Less has built its business around an off-price retail model that focuses on offering name-brand merchandise at lower prices. Ross was founded in 1982 and has grown into the nation’s largest off-price retail chain. The company says its buyers work directly with manufacturers to find merchandise and negotiate prices. Its stores also use a simple layout with fewer traditional retail fixtures and decorations.
The Carlsbad store will add another Ross location to the company’s existing presence throughout San Diego County. The company currently lists stores in San Diego, Point Loma, Mission Valley, National City, Kearny Mesa, Clairemont Mesa, La Jolla, Chula Vista, Spring Valley, La Mesa, El Cajon, Santee, and San Ysidro. The new Carlsbad location will extend the chain farther into North County.
Ross says its merchandise changes frequently, with new purchases arriving at stores almost every day. The retailer carries a range of clothing, accessories, footwear, home goods, and other department store merchandise, with inventory varying by location. The company’s approach is centered on keeping operating costs lower so it can pass more savings along to customers.
In June, What Now Media Group reported that Ross was working on multiple new San Diego-area locations, including proposed stores in Vista and Lakeside, along with a DD’s Discounts location in San Diego. Those projects followed filings with the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality. The Carlsbad proposal adds another location to the company’s recent expansion activity in the region.
