Buc-ee’s, the beloved Texas-based travel center chain, is eyeing a site in northern El Paso County for its second Colorado location. The company known for its massive stores with impressive food options, has proposed coming to an area near Interstate 25 and County Line Road.
Following the successful opening of its first Colorado location in Johnstown in March, Buc-ee’s wants to develop another facility. The Colorado Springs Gazette reports that it will be a 74,000-square-foot center that will employ 175 to 225 full-time workers.
The new location is positioned about an hour south of Denver and would serve as a strategic stop for road trippers traveling along I-25. However, public reaction has been mixed: expressed concerns about increased traffic and potential environmental impacts at a recent meeting.
Founded in 1982, Buc-ee’s has developed a cult-like following. Known for its Texas-style barbecue, Buc-ee’s serves fresh brisket, pulled pork, turkey sandwiches, and hearty breakfast tacos, as well as Beaver Nuggets, sweet caramel corn puffs, homemade fudge, kettle-cooked chips, pastries, candies, and more.
