According to the San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose’s Milk Belly Bakery — “known for its creative, soybean powder-accented sourdough loaves, cream scones, and Japanese-style egg salad sandwiches” — is opening a brick-and-mortar shop in the city.

Coming to 30 E Santa Clara Street, Suite 110, the cafe will land near establishments such as MINIBOSS, Pastelaria Adega, and Scratch Cookery.

“There are plans to offer pies, doughnuts, and more pastries. Sandwiches and sourdough toast slices topped with seasonal ingredients will still be staple items,” the Journal reports.

For readers who are unfamiliar with Milk Belly, the concept offers a brief introduction on its website: “Milk Belly Bakery started in 2020 the year the pandemic started.”

“As two chefs and having our second child, we wanted to actually do something for our family. Our bread and pastries are inspired by our childhood. As Asian Americans we wanted to incorporate our food culture into the mix.”

Milk Belly Bakery is slated to open in October.
