Local burger spot Smashed NYC is planning its third location, this time targeting East Village with plans to open at 94 Third Ave.
Owner Mark Mendaros told What Now New York that he is targeting a late winter opening for this location.
This spot will join existing locations in Dumbo and the West Village for the Smashed NYC brand. Smashed originally opened on the Lower East Side in 2021, but Mendaros closed that location this past year. However, the customers who frequented the Lower East Side drew him back to the area.
“I still wanted to be in the area. Third Avenue seemed like a good location,” Mendaros said. “There are a lot of restaurants popping up in the area, and there’s a lot of foot traffic.”
The design at the East Village spot will model the existing locations. However, there will be some menu differences. Smashed NYC offers some different menu items at its various locations — it offers a Time Out Burger at its Dumbo location as a nod to Time Out Market, for example — and the East Village location will offer its own array of unique menu items.
Mendaros said he expects to bring back secret menu items such as the chopped cheese and doughnut burger that they used to serve at the Lower East Side spot. He also plans to serve chicken sandwiches at this new location, which are currently found at the West Village location but not in Dumbo.
“We have a big following in the East Village that used to go to the Lower East Side location,” Mendaros said. “A lot of people have been inquiring when we were going to open up another location downtown, so I’m hoping that the same people will come to this location.”
