Chicago Cut Steakhouse, one of the area’s most impressive dining establishments, is getting ready to expand in River North at 300 N. La Salle St.

The restaurant plans to build on its current space and add a 4,500-square-foot second floor, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. This addition will be used solely for private dining. While most of the downstairs will stay the same, the extra space will allow the restaurant to double the size of its bar, which currently has seven tables. The restaurant will also receive some additional space in the kitchen. Managing Partner David Flom confirms with What Now Chicago that the project is expected to be completed in Summer 2023.

Upstairs will be divided into three rooms, each with 16-foot windows and an incredible view of the Chicago River and skyline. Movable walls will allow the rooms to accommodate large groups of 20, 40, and 80 people. Chicago Cut initially decided not to purchase the top half of the building to avoid biting off more than it could chew. However, since the pandemic, restaurants have noticed the demand for private dining has risen, and Chicago Cut’s current one-floor capacity has made operations limited.

“One challenge we’ve had since we opened is we feel our bar is too small on a busy night,” Flom tells Crain’s. “We need more of that space. The timing seemed right, as well as having private dining that was all private but looked out a window. It seems like a lot of private dining is in the back of the restaurant or buried in the basement.”
