According to an article from Block Club Chicago, Vienna Beef Restaurant aims to debut at 2501 N Damen Avenue.

A representative of Vienna Beef Restaurant was not immediately available to comment upon What Now Chicago’s request.

According to the article, “A restaurant serving up Vienna Beef hot dogs, Italian beefs and other street food specialties will open at the company’s namesake plaza in the first half of 2025, a spokesperson told Block Club this week.”

“The plaza’s restaurant and factory store had initially been slated for a spring 2024 opening, Tom McGlade, Vienna Beef vice president, previously told Block Club. But with construction still taking place, both will now open in the “first half of 2025,” a spokesperson said. A more specific timeline was not available.”

“In 2018, Vienna Beef opened a pop-up museum at the former factory to celebrate its 125th anniversary. The exhibit featured historical photos and signs, an antique meat grinder, and other items.”

“The museum will not make a comeback in the development. The restaurant in the rehabbed space will instead be “outfitted with memorabilia that encapsulates the company’s 130-year history as Chicago-born and Chicago-made,” according to a news release from last year.”

Vienna Beef’s website adds, “Making food memories since 1893, Vienna Beef found fame at the World’s Fair/Columbian Exposition, when two brothers debuted their sausages, made according to their Austrian-Hungarian roots.”

“The Chicago Style Hot Dog became an institution during the Great Depression, thanks to its bounty of condiments and five-cents price tag. Today, Vienna Beef products are made right at home in Chicago, in small batches according to our traditional recipes.”
