Bar On The Ave Owner to Open New Restaurant in West Ashley

The new restaurant, Bar On The River, would open in the former space of Creekside Kitchen and Brewhouse, which closed in 2020.

The owner of a North Charleston restaurant and sports bar, Bar On The Ave, is looking to open a new location called Bar On The River nearby in West Ashley this fall.

Anton Jones recently submitted plans to the city to request a rezoning of a plot at 2600 Savannah Highway along the Stono River, near Southern Roots Smokehouse and Creekside Lands Inn. The building at 2600 Savannah Highway formerly held Creekside Kitchen & Brewhouse, which closed in 2020 after seven years of business.

Jones opened Bar on the Ave at 4634 Spruill Ave in North Charleston in 2021. The spot serves southern-inspired seafood and fried dishes as well as bar favorites like nuggets, cheesesteaks, burgers and pizza. Their drink menu ranges from beers to signature island-inspired cocktails. For breakfast and brunch, they offer chicken and waffles and southern-style breakfast items. Bar on the Ave known locally for its late-night food options, pool tables and laidback sports bar vibe.

According to plans submitted to the city, the expected hours of Bar On The River would be 3 P.M. to 12 A.M. and it plans to employ 20 workers. Owner Anton Jones shared with What Now Charleston that the new restaurant will have the same concept and menu as Bar On The Ave. Although they are still awaiting their zoning and liquor permits, Jones says they are hoping to be open for business by this November.
