Plans by industrial developer Prologis for a one-story, 340,000-square-foot warehouse project in Harbor Gateway North were moved forward earlier this month when the city of Los Angeles released a draft environmental impact report for the proposed development.
The project, which would rise on an unoccupied 16-acre site at the northeastern corner of the South Vermont Avenue and West Redondo Beach Boulevard intersection, has been in the works for several years. City planning commission approvals given to Prologis’ plans in 2018 were met with pushback from residents in the form of an appeal and also the state Attorney General’s Office, both of whom argued that a deeper environmental review was needed.
The city started the environmental impact report process last year, resulting in the draft impact report being released on Friday for the proposed Gardena-area development. Public comments about the report can be submitted to the city until Monday, October 4. The new report outlines an anticipated construction timeline starting in October and finishing by the end of July 2022.
If its plans are cleared, Prologis would develop a 53-foot-tall warehouse and distribution center including 25,000 square feet of mezzanine space. The project would provide 194 automobile parking spaces and 32 bicycle parking spaces, as well as 36 dock high truck loading positions and parking for up to 71 trailers, plans show. The facility would also include up to 40,000 square feet of office space.
Designs for the proposed development are being led by RGA, Office of Architectural Design.
