AJA Vineyards — the award-winning Malibu Coast winemaker — will open its first tasting room at 1417 2nd Street (suite C) in Santa Monica early next year, according to a recently filed liquor license and confirmed by the company’s Instagram.
In a post made to the company’s social media feed on September 22, proprietor Amanda Greenbaum announced the incoming brick-and-mortar that has been four years in the making, explaining that those interested in following the journey can do so via the AJA Vineyards mailing list.
Founded by Todd and Heather Greenbaum, AJA Vineyards was created out of a passion and love for the art of wine and named after the couple’s three children: Alec, Jack, and Amanda.
“In 2011, Todd and Heather purchased the [Malibu coast] vineyard where Todd began cultivating Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon,” says the AJA website. This sparked an interest in their eldest, Amanda, at the young age of 14.”
A second vineyard was planted “in the cold of winter” in February 2013. Then, after the Woolsey Fire in November of 2018 and the “miracle” survival of the family’s second vineyard, the Greenbaums planted their third and final vineyard.
Today, Amanda — an insatiable and certified sommelier — devotes her life to crafting the best wines of the Malibu Coast and currently runs all operations at the winery so as to walk in the footsteps of her father.
