Nguyen’s Kitchen, the popular Southern California chain, is preparing to open a new location in Long Beach at 2210 N Bellflower Blvd.
The company’s sixth location, and first in Long Beach, is set to open in the former home of Grilled Fraiche in the North Los Altos Shopping Center, according to LongBeachize. Currently, Nguyen’s Kitchen has three sites in Orange County at Orange, Santa Ana, and Costa Mesa, as well as two in Los Angeles County in South Gate and Carson. It’s unclear when the new Long Beach location will open, but signage recently went up on the building.
Grilled Fraiche owner Peace Love Reedburg announced last year the closure of his much-loved Caribbean-meets-Californian style set of restaurants—including its Long Beach location and the two in South Los Angeles. The space has sat vacant since May 2024. While the closure is sad for the restaurant’s followers, it allows Ngyuen’s Kitchen to move into the space. The new Long Beach location will likely open in early 2025, offering rice bowls and contemporary plays on bánh mì sandwiches.
“It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude that we announce the closure of Grilled Fraiche,” owner Peace Love Reedburg said in an online statement last year. “This has been a difficult decision, but despite our best efforts, we have reached a point where we are unable to sustain our operations due to a lack of necessary capital. We understand that this news may come as a surprise, but we want you to know that this decision was made after careful consideration of all options, and we believe it is the best course of action for the well-being of the business.”
