One of North Carolina’s most popular Mexican chains, White Duck Taco Shop, has announced the permanent closure of one location in Charlotte and the reopening of another in Matthews.
Earlier this week, the company announced the Belmont neighborhood location, at 1020 E 10th Street, Suite 3, has been temporarily closed and will not reopen, according to an Instagram post from the restaurant. Instead, White Duck Taco Shop will focus on its Matthews restaurant at 131 E John Street, Suite A, which has been temporarily closed since an overnight fire in July. Co-owners Jason Haas and Jeff Carter are planning to reopen this location in early Spring 2024.
“It is with great sadness we let you know that we will not be reopening for business,” according to the announcement. “We thank you for your patronage and supporting us. We opened four months before COVID-19 and have had quite the roller coaster ride. We are looking to relocate and are working to reopen our Matthews location in the early Spring.”
When the Matthews location opens early next year, it will sit in the same spot near the Matthews Community Farmers’ Market. Customers can expect a variety of fusion tacos with options such as Jerk Chicken, Duck with Mole, and Mushroom Potato with Romesco. For those who don’t want to wait until early next year to try these delicious tacos, there are more locations throughout North Carolina, including sites in Hendersonville, Johnson City, Mount Pleasant, Matthews, two in Greenville, and three in Asheville. There is also one location in Nashville.
