1928 Cuban Bistro Opening Fifth Location in Fernandina Beach

The company is possibly targeting Fleming Island for its next location

1928 Cuban Bistro is preparing to open its newest location within Jacksonville, coming to Fernandina Beach at 122 S. Eighth St.

The company has slowly taken over Northeast Florida with its four locations in Baymeadows, Saint Johns, Ortega, and Jacksonville Beach. Owner Rebecca Gonzalez tells What Now Jacksonville she expects to open this fifth location around the end of this month, possibly early April. The new 1928 Cuban Bistro will replace Amelia Island Tea House. Gonzalez appears to have no plans of slowing down, as she says the company is possibly targeting Fleming Island for its next location.

“We are always looking for opportunities to expand the 1928 Cuban Bistro brand,” Gonzalez told Jacksonville Daily Record last year. “An opportunity presented itself in Fernandina Beach, and it made perfect sense to pursue the growing area.”

This expansion not only proves how successful this concept is, but how the “American Dream” is still alive and well. Gonzalez’s grandfather, who was born in 1928, immigrated from Cuba in 1961 in hopes of finding a better life. To honor her grandfather, who was Gonzalez’s biggest supporter in life, she opened the 1928 Cuban Bistro in 2019. Now Gonzalez is showing her appreciation for what he’s done for her and her family by opening a 2,292-square-foot space that will seat 49 customers.

When this new location opens, customers can expect breakfast, lunch, and dinner to be served all day. On top of the various coffee and tea drink options, the bistro offers a handful of delicious sandwiches, including The Cuban, Pan Con Lechon, and more. Other items expected to be on the menu include wraps, salads, empanadas, plates, sides, soup, pastries, and desserts such as flan, churros, and bunuelos

  • Just ate at this awesome restaurant. Excellent Cuban food. I give it a 10+. I am a desedent of Cubans so I know Cuban food and this bought back to my fathers cooking. Meet Owner’s husband Adrian and he and the staff were so attentive. Go there a little piece of home for us “Cuban” And a carribean experience for non cuban!
